Annotation

This paper examines first mention referring expressions for participants and entities in narratives, employed by Mandarin heritage language (HL) and monolingual children. Partial HL acquisition can differ across distinct linguistic subdomains (Montrul, 2008). Mixed modeling inquiries disclose that older arrival age, higher maternal education levels and a replete and varied Mandarin home milieu forecast stronger narrative results, also indicating a notable role for input in HL acquisition.
