Annotation

An overview of the domain of Interlanguage Pragmatics (ILP) indicates the Discourse Completion Test (DCT) as the most regularly used tool to assess second/foreign language learners’ sociopragmatic knowledge, despite the severe criticism on its low construct reliability and its defect to render genuine discourse features. It is stated that the DCT should be handled as a language test (instead of a questionnaire) and thus be submitted to a stringent developmental process.
