Annotation

This paper focuses on intra-individual and intra-conversational variation within the LANCHART corpus of spoken Danish to reveal the pragmatic effect of employing du instead of other generic pronouns (like man). It is asserted that generic du is employed as a resource for construing involvement, probably by utilizing the vagueness of du between a generic and specific second person meaning. These quantitative results advocate qualitative inquiry of the discourse framing of generic pronoun use.
