Annotation
This study described and categorizes 73 conventionalized graphic schemas in Japanese manga comics, and employs the classification system to examine potential differences in visual morphology between boys’ and girls’ comics, via a corpus analysis of 20 books. Findings back the idea of a broader Japanese Visual Language across genres. Yet the varying usage rate for specific schemas within each genre, signifies that each genre represents its own “dialect” within this wider system.
