This speech act study especially explores the expositive illocutionary act from a discourse-anchored viewpoint, debating discourse-provoked changes and reconceptualizations. It is argued that expositives (Austin, [1962]1975) are a higher-level type of illocutionary act that reveals how speech acts and their linguistic implementations are meant to be read in discourse. Their elucidation in discourse may prompt a (re)contextualizing of locutionary meaning and illocutionary force, thus adding to discourse structuring. It is argued that expositives can be allotted the status of generalized contextualization tool.
