This study employs an ethnomethodological and conversation analytic approach to explore a child's verbal breaching (methodical practices) to evade engagement in quotitidan news telling stories during family mealtime, and parental reactions to it. Such apparently small breaches can add to our comprehension of the way that diverse adult-teenager relationship types can be created via these ‘awkward’ interactions.
