This study discusses how two kinds of formulation sequences are employed for the management of talk on emotions in occupational therapist-client encounters in psychiatric outpatient clinic care, and how this unites interactional attributes of psychotherapeutic and medical work. Whilst clinicians are found to support clients' emotional states description from a competence view, they take to heart clients’ grievous experiences, yet immediately redirect the topic.
