This study centers on two types of (recommended) formulations (clients' word restatements) employed in the primary phase of Dutch chat (versus telephone) counselling sessions on alcohol and/or drugs, that present two possible activities as actual interactional focus: requesting and supplying information or problem debate. While the first type settles vague help questions, the second examines whether the client would like to reveal more about the problem enclosed in the question.
