Annotation

This paper argues that American pastness and futurity conceptions of Spanish and English differ according to language users' ethnoracial status. A racialized social tense continues Latinas/os' marginalization by constantly postponing their societal inclusion claims to an anonymous future, featuring the coeval political economy of racialized language and identity.
