By analyzing three mediatised cases, this paper demonstrates that the inculpatory and apologetic discursive moves in a type of American language game picking out individuals as likely outlier-“racists”, finally propagate paramount ideological suppositions, rather shielding white privilege than disabling racism, even when speakers deal with seemingly anti-racist talk.
