This paper favors the study of governmentality as a usable and waxing approach in critical sociolinguistic research. It first debates key questioning notions, covering governmentality, languaging, peripherality and language worker. Then it maps how five ethnographically and discourse-analytically informed case studies translate the issue of languaging the worker via a governmentality frame.
