This paper explores how Hebrew education was built in the US by outlining the Hebrew ideology debate of begin and mid-1900s, when thorough changes updated Jewish schooling and its place within US society. Centering on Samson Benderly's Hebrew acquisition and educational philosophies, it inquires how the Ivrit b’Ivrit movement – teaching Jewish content via Modern Hebrew – re-conceptualized Hebrew education as a ways of determining and molding American Judaism for the then Jewish immigrant community.
