Annotation

Drawing on three year ethnographic research in a Northern California urban public high school, and linking language micro-level and difference construction macro-level processes, this article concentrates on power and privilege in identity negotiation in super-diversity settings, and argues that, considering crossing difference lines, identity is not just distinct, but overlapping categories, and a process of setting limits, taking stands, giving meaning to symbolic resources and a play with representations.
