Annotation

In the multilingual and multicultural contexts of the University of the Western Cape (UWC), intended for ‘Coloureds’ in apartheid South Africa, but via revolt enrolling students of all races and ethnicities, social legality is parleyed via in- and out-group codes that are all contained in the students’ repertoire. The disputes (e.g. on Xhosa and Afrikaans as languages for respectively black and coloured solidarity), and disagreements, thus render the democratic states on which diversity discourses are generated and engaged in by the manifold socio-cultural student set.
