This paper presents the first planned MO for discerning linguistic hyperbole (LH) in discourse, the Hyperbole Identification Procedure (HIP), defines LH as "more inordinate phrasing than answered for by its ontological referent”, and applies HIP to a Dutch news texts' corpus.
