This critical discourse analysis examines ideological fundamentals of modality used by the three candidates in the 2012 Taiwan Presidential Debates. Modal verbs, adverbs, and adjectives are employed as linguistic and ideological devices for, among others and most weightily, argument framing to convince the electorate and request their aid.
