This paper elucidates the ‘moving parts’ in the Black preacher voice stylization in Richard Pryor's comedy sketches, to detect their interactional function. Mixing inflated Black preaching tradition traits and maybe Southern-bent speech styles with his own ‘stage voice’, may obscure the line between his 'own' and the preacher's stance.
