Annotation

Despite weighty language contact and shift, Louisiana French upholds a phonetic and phonemic (instead of a simplified) nasal vowel system (survey:1977 and 2010–2011). Quantitative analyses (n=2801) show contextual nasalization to operate nearly purely within the word, not the syllable field.
