Three debates between anthropology's ethnographic and interpretivist commitments and Labov's correlational MO and positivist philosophical hypotheses, are reviewed: on linguistic heterogeneity's nature; on social disparity (re)production; and on linguistic style importance. It is claimed that (educed) results were productive.
