Though Labov's model is critiqued for downplaying interlocutor role and context in modelling (personal experience) oral narratives, later narrative research unavoidably adopts Labov's perception that narrative form relates to its interactional functions and Labovian narrative inquiry had a huge impact on enabling and validating the study of quotidian, vernacular narration.
