Annotation

This article explores individual, community and bricolage coherence co-occurrence for three New York City English (NYCE) variables. There is community coherence for (r), raised bought and raised bad in NYCE, three attributes in removal in the regional variety, and individual coherence yet only for 30%. Bricolage analysis of one speaker's use discloses both co-occurrence and lack of it. A bricolage view is weighty in relating individual practices and community-level patterns, and both views are required to grasp co-occurrence of manifold variables in speech communities.
