The standard view of similes attaining poetic effects, conveying explicit comparisons, as grasped in relevance theory (RT), is advocated. Similes and metaphors are not widely grasped in the same way, yet simile content matching the ad hoc concept imparted as explicature element by a metaphor (where relevant) can be seized in terms of a concept of comparison-pertinent content.
