Annotation

The IDEAL-programme (Integrating Disadvantaged Ethnicities through Adult Learning), backs migrant mothers (MMs) without formal education in language acquisition and societal participation in Western countries. IDEAL was tested and evaluated with MMs of Berber and Arabic descent in the Netherlands and Sweden in 2011–2013. Teachers of equal background acted as role model facilitators and social brokers. Participants' personal narratives reveal novel insights, abilities, and attitudes on the issues of communication, health and parenting.
