In computer-mediated comic exchanges, interlocutors synchronically return and equal each other’s smiling degree. The Texas A&M University–Commerce corpus of comic exchanges in native English, Spanish, and Chinese speaking dyads futher e.g. reveals enhanced smiling attention in the presence of humor and elucidates smiling's role as discourse marker, and thus as relevant verbal communication tool.
