Using 3 case studies on distinct politeness research facets -discernment and first-order politeness and facework-, this paper examines Late Egyptian ‘politeness’ and considers modern politeness frames' fitness for exploring the Late Ramesside Letter (LRL) corpus of 70+ personal communications. What was considered polite conduct in LRL (c.1099–1069 BCE) writing, strictly adhering to hierarchical social positions ?
