The pragmatic deductions typology is slightly improved by integrating extra variances. Stirred by Recanati’s availability principle, Bach’s indirect-quote test is expanded into a faithful-report test battery, differentiating deductions on discoursal grounds. What Grice at first studied as conversational implicatures are divided into Sperber and Wilson's relevance-theoretic ex- and implicated deductions, potent implicatures, Searle's background beliefs, and Ariel's truth-congruent inferences. Besides, Grice’s (1989) “as if to say” representations, here described as temporal explicatures, are limited to what is labelled here two-tier uses.
