This paper explores how Western employees phrase three varied speech acts (request, comment, and dissent) in internal work e-mails to their Asian colleagues, and how the latter perceive them as regards politeness, kindness, and lucidity. Results debate is partly settled in the continuing East-West politeness discussion.
