This study centers on the link between English-medium instruction (EMI), motivation and possible selves, and their moderation by variables like gender and students’ L1. It is shown that for 189 students enlisted in EMI courses at a Spanish university, students’ ideal L2 self, EMI attitudes and family impact best portend their planned learning exertion. Gender and participants’ L1 had no notable impact.
