A UK pilot study executed in Manchester, assessed home language proficiency based on quick, incognito speech acts, and compared it with schoolchildrens’ self-reported home language(s) exposure. Diverse factors seem to affect language maintenance in distinct communities, and home language maintenance does not unfavorably impact majority language competence.
