A prognosis is offered of the mutual images of Portuguese and Turkish university students acquiring each other's language and culture. Their self- and other-images may refer to identity negotiation, grasp of and conduct towards each other, incentives to acquire each other's language, and intercultural communication itself. Inquiry of Images of Languages and Cultures and the Intercultural Competence notion are linked in the analysis of students' representations within the Foreign Language Education research tradition.
