Annotation

Based on Carbaugh's work on Cultural Discourse Analysis, this inquiry centers upon 10 particular individual reports of Assistant English Language Teachers (ALTs) as migrant workers' medical meetings and interplay with Japanese medical providers (JMPs) in Japan to reveal: (a) discursive uses ALTs employ to (de)-legitimize JMPs and (b) cultural beliefs ALTs await of JMPs. Notably, three ways are exposed wherein terms of talk between ALTs and JMPs affected perceptions and ideas of medical interplay in Japan.
