Using the language acquisition story of Federica, an Italian international student in UK higher education (HE), this study theorises the link between language and intercultural learning from a Bakhtinian dialogic view. This theorisation presents a relational view of the self and the other wherein intercultural learning is a course of ideological becoming with the other, set in, with and via language.
