Membership Categorisation Analysis is employed to examine two focus-group debates with students from a Catalan/Spanish bilingual institution chosen to join in an Erasmus exchange at a Danish university, and one with academic and administrative personnel of this host university. The inquiry discloses that the discursive ‘procedures’, exhibited by plurilingual students and staff whose repertory covers a lesser-spoken language like Danish and Catalan, in order to ‘make sense’ of their language choice, puts the local (Danish) language in a plainly inferior position in university life.
