Annotation

This study debates the practice of foreign political leaders using diverse rhetorical and media strategies for bypassing interior national leaders to win the hearts of the public on the opponent’s side, and shows three rhetorical bypass types that can be placed on two continuum ends. At one end, the foreign actor aims at spreading anxiety in the audience's heart by menaces or cautions that predict a dark future, whereas at the other end, he or she wants to warm the same public's hearts by employing diverse way of reconciliatory talk, namely, greetings, apologies, or pledges of a lively shared future.
