This review essay sketches the actual tilts of modern whiteness research in communication studies over the past two decades, moving through the ‘what,’ ‘how,' and ‘why' of whiteness theorizing. Whiteness inquiry ontologically conceptualizes whiteness as social paradox, epistemologically engages intricate whiteness assay, and axiologically dedicates itself to racial justice. Praxis-aligned whiteness inquiry centralizing the ‘who' of whiteness theorizing is advocated.
