Annotation

This paper handles the rendition of the linguistic and cultural “immigrant” type in French and Russian media discourse. Linguistic analysis of chosen sources displays, on the one hand, forbearance signs towards immigrants and, on the other hand, evidence of repudiating immigrants, which shows the equivocation of the matter and indirectly induces conflicts. Visual composition analysis fills this outcome by disclosing the following: the aim of immigration – employment – is frequently socially disclaimed; immigrants’ community sense is a special cultural code in a host culture; and an “immigrant”'s cultural transfer into a distinct space generates incertitude or equivocation.
