Annotation
This paper explores links between media use, intergroup contact, and acculturation in 237 Asian Indian Silicon Valley professionals, using media effects, intergroup contact, and immigrant acculturation theories. Host contact quality and (American) host media consumption respectively positively portend and are positively linked to acculturation. Indian (ethnic) media consumption negatively portends acculturation. Ethnic television viewing strengthens negative intergroup contact impact on acculturation. Social networking websites serve to uphold host and ethnic ties. Cultural/informational host capital and host media consumption are respectively positively linked to acculturation and to political engagement and solitude.
