Using L. Karttunen's (1973: 'Presuppositions of compound sentences') notion of 'filtering', L. tries to solve the projection problem for presuppositions, with special reference to sentences in which alternatives are given (as in 'Perhaps John has no children, but perhaps his children are away on vacation').
