This critical discourse analysis of news reports, editorials, and other stories (mainly in The Times of India and Dainik Jagran), linked to the rape of a 23-year-old woman in New Delhi, India, on 16 December 2012, demonstrates that newspapers’ treatment of this news was affected by reporters, socio-cultural media contexts and neoliberal subjectivity, unsettled by this episode.
