Annotation
This paper deals with the complex language use in multilingual Botswana, where English and Setswana rule the public sphere as respectively official and national language, banning the other 23 indigenous languages to local or tribal use. Refusal to acknowledge the exigency to expand their use beyond the home domain is a main motive for the revival of cultural associations acting as efficient local language plea groups. The change suggests that the linguistic field is slowly altering, a situation which might prelude the arrival of a comprehensive language policy that utilizes both macro and micro plane language planning.
