Annotation

Modern Hebrew's nativization in the late 19th-early 20th century is one of the most often quoted instances of language planning and (maybe) revival. This article argues that though the Hebrew Language Committee's inclusion of many religious phrases borrowed from Jewish religion, mysticism, and law, was chiefly secular, Hebrew language planning was not wholly secularized (cfr. suequel of Jewish scholarly, halakhic debates).
