This article explores language choice in the liturgy of an ethnically homogenous Q’eqchi’-Maya parish in Guatemala. Whereas the goals of Vatican II have amply been met in the parish with Q’eqchi’ acting as its de facto language, within the last decade Charismatic Catholics' Spanish usage in their services has raised a heated conflict.
