Based on social categorization theory (SCT), this study examined news coverage of steroid use in major league baseball (MLB), and fans’ perceptions of whether three players accused of steroids use, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and Rafael Palmeiro, should be installed into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The results disclosed that player likability, similarity, attitudes, and subjective norms portended support for each player with differences appearing between each player. The results are debated with a focus on how SCT was employed to cross the health, media effects, and race literatures.
