Annotation

This analysis confirms that women's self-affirmation (before exposure to a message favoring fruit and vegetable consumption) increased anticipated regret, which may positively influence health persuasion. By pointing out the mediating role of anticipated regret, this paper exemplifies how self-affirmation may foster healthy intentions and conduct after health message exposure. Self-affirmation techniques could thus potentially be employed to enhance the efficiency of health communication attempts.
