Annotation

The empirical inquiry of participants’ verbal, vocal, and visible practices and resources in handling affectivity in climaxes of amusing everyday stories has disclosed a normatively oriented-to ‘Affect Display Sequence’, in which affiliation is the preferred reply. The debate of trajectories with non-understanding and non-affiliating replies, in turn, displays how the ‘Affect Display Sequence’ is extended and handled in more intricate and dispreferred cases. Thence the article adds to the description and grasp of affectivity in interaction as an orderly and normatively oriented-to phenomenon that is shown and managed with multimodal practices and resources and co-constructed by the interactional participants.
