This inquiry examines the possibility and the feasibility of generating a set of local grammars to adequately explain speech acts, illustrating the inquiry with a local grammar of request. It chiefly tries to foster speech act studies and to finally add to the on-going expansion of corpus pragmatics. A corpus of transcripts of the sitcom The Big Bang Theory is employed. The inquiry demonstrates that it is auspicious, yet concurrently defiant, to generate local grammars of speech acts.
