Annotation

This paper tries to gain insight into the way pupils interact with a Computer-based learning environment (CBLE) which supplies help in their home language via different digital tools. Therefore, E-Validiv was generated, a CBLE providing multilingual content, to wit in the language of instruction and pupils’ home language. Six fifth-grade pupils were videotaped while working on E-Validiv and their activities were logged. Afterwards, they were interviewed by means of stimulated recall on the way they had employed the CBLE. The results display that the pupils functionally employ their home language to back their learning process. Pupils interact with the multilingual CBLE via diverse digital tools to ameliorate grasp of words and content. The paper also distinguishes barriers which may impede pupils to employ the multilingual content in an optimal way.
