Annotation

Using offline and online casual interactions in the context of youth in Mongolia, on the Asian periphery, this paper explores youth's mixed language practices from the viewpoint of “linguascapes” in order to discern the current flows of transnational linguistic resources in relation to other social landscapes. The inquiry wants to add to current debates on the sociolinguistics of globalization by exploring to what degree and in what way resources make up linguascapes among youth groups with divers access to resources. The main implication of this inquiry is that youth linguascapes in Mongolia are fundamentally different, as a result of the combination of varied transcultural resources. At the same time, these resources are unevenly spread and unequally localized.
