The comprehension of the functional range of numeral classifiers demands a combined exertion from various theoretical approaches and the integration of findings from syntax, semantics and pragmatics. This paper shows how such an integrative perspective generates new insights into classifiers in Sinitic languages in the fields of counting and word order, definiteness and indefiniteness expression, and verbal classification syntax.
