Annotation

The inquiry of spoken language demands controlling multiple aspects of the speech signal. Here, a procedure is reported to generate a sarcastic version of honestly spoken audio stimuli by altering aspects of prosody pertinent to sarcasm (pitch, pace, and loudness) while controlling all other acoustic differences. Two rating experiments confirmed the efficiency of this procedure for spoken conversations (“Maybe they are more delicate than you realized”) and descriptions (“Angie thanked John for doing such a great job”; emphasis points to manipulation).
